VOLUNTEERS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS (VIPS)
We love our volunteers! We are excited to have such an active group of family volunteers as a part of our YLS team. If you have ideas and/or would like to volunteer your time and talents, we welcome an appreciate you support. PARENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE (PAC)
Parents are valued partners in the educational process, serving as the child’s teacher in the home. All campus and district activities will give proper consideration to the involvement of parents. A Parent Advisory Council consisting of parents, Title I Coordinators, administrators, members of the community, and other district-wide staff. The goal is to have family members play a vital role in decision-making process.
BRIGHTER BITES
YLS participates in a collaborative partnership with Brighter Bites which brings fresh produce to Young Learners’ families that includes an educational component. For more information on how to volunteer, please click here to contact our volunteer coordinator, Jessica Lopez.
SHARED DECISION MAKING COUNCIL (SDMC)
YLS stakeholders implement campus-level learning and a decision-making process, which is aligned and approved by the Houston Independent School District (HISD), Board of Education in 1992. Our process involves the creation and maintenance of a Shared Decision-Making Committee (SDMC) and a Parent Advisory Committee (PAC).
Each committee is designed to involve professional and non-professional staff, parents, community members, and business representatives in establishing academic and other performance objectives of the school for each academic excellence indicator adopted in the Texas Education Code (TEC §11.253, TEC §39.051).
The YLS SDMC members meet at least once a year as required to discuss the performance of our school and school objectives.
“Volunteers help us to provide a quality program for our students.
We appreciate and depend on the wonderful parents, grandparents,
community, and friends who volunteer at Young Learners School.”
